Good things are always happening to me ✨
How I found balance between fun and wellness
Let’s face it. If you know me, I am a pretty scatterbrained person. I am hyper, goofy and downright immature sometimes. Silliness is the core of my being. This is why I’m amazing with kids. This is why I am usually snickering about something. And I love all those things about myself.
When I first started exploring spirituality, I attended a Buddhist centre with my partner. We were so eager to get things right and live as best we can. On our way home, we were talking about how to really dedicate to this practise. How could we integrate into routines, what time to wake up at and so on… But then shaving our heads and renouncing our modern lifestyle did come up! All or nothing eh? Absolutely not!!
I find that when people dive into this exploration, there’s usually some sort of assumption of perfection on a permanent basis.
What I’ve learned since the beginning of my exploration of the spiritual side of life, is that we are SOULS experiencing what it’s like to be human. Imagine just before you were concieved…you had planned out this life, agreed to come here to Earth, to live, experience and learn.
Which is why I don’t beat myself up when I forget to meditate, when I get angry or when I fall out of the rhythm of my wellness routines. Wellness practises should support your lifestyle, not be the total centre of it.
Buddhism teaches that life is full of suffering because of how we cling to expectations and rigid ambitions. We will no doubt end up going through plenty of bumps on the road of life. So the more open to change we are, the more compassion we have for our own selves and the people round us, then the easier life can flow, and the less we suffer from our own expectations being ruined.
So, you see, when we hold on to the idea that we MUST be rigid, strict and punishing with our wellness routines, we’re kind of missing the point aren’t we? Hold on to light-heartedness, experience the ups and downs with the human body and contemplate it with your souls perspective.
Less rigidity, more fun. Don’t take yourself too seriously. We only live this once, and we don’t get out alive anyway.
